Self Assessment Tax Returns

Typical cost

Our costs are typically £120 to £300 per Tax Return.  Tax Returns including self employment pages usually range from £250 to £500.

What's the service?

We offer a complete preparation and online filing service which ensures you are fully compliant with HMRC and ensure you meet the relevant filing deadlines.

We will advise you of any Tax Liabilities due before we submit your return to HMRC so you can plan for your upcoming payments.

Using our experience we will carefully complete your return to minimise the chance of creating red flags with HMRC and also provide you with feedback on how you may be more tax efficient.

Who needs to complete a tax return?

The main reasons for needing to file a Tax Return are usually as follows:

  • You're self employed (see our self employment page)

  • You're a director of a UK Limited Company

  • You rent out a property

  • You earn over £100,000 or have over £10,000 of savings/dividend income

  • You had a capital gain (e.g. a property or share sale).

See HMRC's guidence here.

When is my tax return due?

The tax year runs from 6th April to 5th April and the deadline for online filing is 31st January, so you have just short of 10 months after the end of the tax year.

You should aim to tell HMRC you need a return as soon as you know - we can do this for you if needed.

Are there penalties if I am late?

Yes and they can be significant. For example, if you're more than a year late in filing you'll owe £1,600 in penalties and that's even if you don't actually owe any tax at all.
